Notes :
This temple site area is called Duganiin Shil on land of Khantai brigade nearby the end of the river Burkhuudiin Tsagaan Burgastiin and the north fringe of the Selenge Murun. There is a fable among the locals on how this temple was founded. The fable starts with a story of a man called Yumchin Dolgor, a birth sister of Khalkhiin Undur Gegeen, who wanted to marry a Tibetan execrator named Baldansangas which was condemned by. The couple threatened to kill the Bodg Lkhama by an imprecation in response to this condemnation which resulted in their being banished from their homeland. The lord of the Daichin Vangiin Khoshuu took custody of them and allowed them to live in Selenge. When the couple died, they were buried at the “Urguun Zuslan” of the Dund Burkhuud located at the north fringe of the Selenge and the ghosts of the two were transformed into a boggard, haunting the locals and creating bickering in the community. To tackle this problem, the two territorial units of Daichin Van Itgemjit Beis Khoshuu came to an agreement and at the beginning of the 18th century, two temples named the monastery “Dashchoimpilin” symbolizing peace. An assembly of high ranking monks from both territorial units recited “The Peace Chant” once a year during autumn, performed “Arvan Khangal” and offered “Benediction” at the end. Since this assembly called for monks from different areas, the assembly took the name “The Variegated Assembly”. At the end of the assembly is an interesting contest called “The Variegated Fat” that involves a competitive eating by monks and devotees with an aim to make everyone feel full after all the contestants were fed by 4 cattle, about 20 sheep and 20 goats boiled in 4 big pans. The winner of the competition, regardless of title and gender, was awarded with a barren cow to be used as winter food supply. The frequently-used alias name “The Assembly Church” originated from the fact that lords from the Sain Noyon Khan and Tusheet Khan provinces used to convene at the big temple to west.
